As part of this year's rail week, two members of the CoMech team spent a whole day with 40 year 7 students from Northampton International Academy, at the National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR). The day's focus was to help promote apprenticeship's in the rail industry to the next generation of engineers.
The day began with a fantastic presentation from the NTAR team explaining to the students how an apprenticeship can unlock a fantastic future working the in the rail industry.
The students were then split into groups and tasked with creating a presentation to convince 4 dragons (2 of the dragons were from CoMech) in the NTAR dragons den to invest in their plans for digital rail. Some amazing ideas were presented to the 4 dragons and we can safely say the future of rail is in safe hands.
After lunch, the students then had the opportunity to see at first hand how trains are maintained and serviced at the onsite Siemens rail depot in Northampton. The students got an in-depth tour of the depot and really got to understand the day to day life of an apprentice in the rail industry.
The children also got to use the fantastic rail training facility at NTAR. This even included getting to use the interactive Virtual Reality based training system to really examine a trains bogie in VR 360.
We would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in the day and the staff at NTAR. We really enjoyed imparting our knowledge of the rail industry and getting to explain CoMech's role in rail apprenticeship's to the students.
